A litter team from the 940th Aerospace Medicine Squadron sets down a ‘patient’ with a simulated leg injury while two other 'patients' watch at a Mass Casualty Exercise, Oct. 5, 2014, Beale Air Force Base, Calif. The red tarp symbolized one of the different sections of triage. Triage is a medical term for sorting patients according to a system of priorities designed to maximize the number of survivors. A team of 940th Aerospace Medicine Squadron members assess a 'patient' with a simulated eye injury while another player simulating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder tries distracts the team at a Mass Casualty Exercise, Oct. 5, 2014, Beale Air Force Base, Calif. The scenario is of a simulated generator explosion and required a dozen ‘patients.’ The medical staff on hand ranged from nurses, dental and laboratory technicians, to administrative personnel. The Mass Casualty Exercise is an annual requirement designed to better prepare each Reservist on how to properly triage multiple wounded during a real emergency.
